Stephenville Winnie Mae Moore-Browning born June 22, 1915, at the family ranch home in the Cedar Point Community, Erath County, Tx., and passed away peacefully on October 13, 2011, in Stephenville, Tx. She was a resident of Erath County and lived many years at her ranch home near Cedar Point. Winnie was a 1932 Stephenville High School graduate. Winnie received her first Teachers Certificate in 1933 and began teaching at the one room Cedar Point School from 1933 to 1937. Winnie was a teacher at Salem and Bluff Dale from 1939 to 1943. Winnie attended college at Daniel Baker College of Southwestern University, John Tarleton College and Sul Ross University. Winnie enjoyed many years of teaching in the cities of Rankin, Odessa, Iraan, Crane, Castleberry and Stephenville. She retired from the Stephenville School District after many years of service in the old Alamo Building at Central Elementary. Winnie spent most of her childhood being raised by her widowed father, Alfred Madison Moore, on the ranch that he purchased and developed into a working cattle ranch. Winnie, and her sister, Mildred, lost their mother, Mattie E. Fleming Moore at an early age in 1924 to influenza. Alfred Moore died in 1965. As a teenager, Winnie helped to herd cattle and did barrel racing. Throughout her life, she attended and organized many social events. She loved cooking and entertaining guests. Winnie has been a member of the Church of Christ since 1964 in Stephenville. Winnie Moore Browning loved adventure. She traveled to 48 states and spent time in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Mexico and South America. Winnie and her husband of 42 years, James Leroy Browning, spent many years of winter months at The Tip of Texas RV Park, Pharr, Tx., until his death in 1989. Winnie continued to enjoy her travels and events with friends and relatives. Winnie Mae Moore-Browning was preceded in death by her husband, James Leroy Browning (1989), her parents, Alfred (1965) and Mattie (1924) Moore, her sister and brother-in-law, Mildred (2009) and W.B."Billy" (1996) Bishop. She was also preceded in death by her three step-children, Fred Browning, Ester Andrews, and Nona Bibby. Also one neice, Billie Joan Bishop who died in 1945 and one grandson by marriage, Ricky Andrews. Winnie is survived by her nephew Jack Lee Bishop with wife, Quata, nephew Jay Dee Bishop and neice Jennie Mae Cherry. She is also survived by nine great neices and nephews: Angela Rose Bishop, Gary Don Bishop, Dale Bishop, Billy Jack Bishop, Joel Bishop, Lora Howell, Cindy Carver, Claudia Whitely, and Eddie Archer. She is survived by five grandchildren by marriage, Fred Browning, David Browning, Cathy Browning-Johnson, Mike Andrews, and Jimmy Andrews along with twelve great, great neices, nine great, great nephews, two great, great, great neices and three great, great, great nephews and one special foster child, Chris Langston. Funeral Services are scheduled for Monday, October 17, 2011, at 2:00 pm located at the Stephenville Funeral Home, 120 W South Loop, Stephenville, Tx. Winnie will be laid to rest in the Garden of Memories in Erath County. Family visitation will be Sunday evening, October 16, 2011, at 6:30 pm. Winnie Moore Browning had a zest for life while cherishing her family and friends. In her own words, "I have had a wonderful life".
