William Roy (Bill) Hammett

William Roy (Bill) Hammett, 86, of Stephenville, passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 in Stephenville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday at Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel with Ben McCleery officiating. Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Stephenville Funeral Home. Bill was born on February 20, 1924 in Stephenville to the late Grover and Omah Keller Hammett. He married Rita Apple, October 6, 1945, in Stephenville, and she preceded him in death on June 7, 1983. He married Elaine Hunter, December 16, 1983, in Stephenville. Bill proudly served his country in WWII in the U. S. Army, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, a forty year plumbing company owner, and a life long resident of Stephenville. Survivors include his wife, Elaine; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Pat Hammett of Stephenville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lou and Richard Lancaster of Coppell; and Rosa and Alex Magana of Spring; stepsons, Mark and wife Joyce Hunter of Stephenville, Clifton Hunter of Waco, and Lyndal Hunter of Iredell; eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, J. B. Hammett; a granddaughter, Becky Hill; and a step grandson, Joshua Hunter.
