William Gene Cowan

Fort Worth William Gene Cowan, 84, of Stephenville passed away June 28, 2010 in Fort Worth. Memorial Service: 10:00 AM Friday, July 2, 2010 at the Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will follow after the service. Gene was born December 7, 1925 in Stephenville to the late Posh and Bertie Logan Cowan. He married Alieta May Phillips on February 12, 1959. She preceded him in death on May 24, 2005. Gene graduated from Stephenville High School, attended John Tarleton Agricultural College, the University of Texas and Long Beach State College, from which he graduated in 1962. After graduation, he taught school at Artisia High School until he retired in 1985 when he and Alieta moved back to Stephenville to be closer to family and friends. Gene served in the US Army during WWII with a Combat Infantryman's Badge. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his sister Anna Beth Miller, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe and Wayne, and three sisters, Maxine, Mazelle, and Naomi. Memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church, 422 W.
