Georgetown - Virginia Reagan Yearwood, 99, passed away Monday, July 11, 2011. Mrs. Yearwood was a long time resident of Stephenville until recently when she moved to a facility in Georgetown to be near her son, John Yearwood. She was born in Beaumont, Texas on September 17, 1911, one of seven children of John and Margaret Reagan. After receiving several degrees from various universities, Mrs. Yearwood worked as a lifelong educator, teaching children from kindergarten to college. She was a distinguished faculty alumnus of Tarleton State University, where she taught child development and psychology. After retiring from TSU in the late 1970s, Mrs. Yearwood worked with Erath County MHMR for several years. Her love for young people touched several and influenced many lives. She enjoyed traveling, working in her yard, and spending time with her family. Mrs. Yearwood was preceded in death by her parents, six siblings, her husband, and a daughter. She leaves behind a son, John Yearwood and wife Priscilla of Georgetown, granddaughters Holley Smotherman and husband Greg of Georgetown, Jennifer Garrison and husband Curt of Stephenville, and grandson Jeb Yearwood, of Ft. Benning, Georgia; great-grandchildren Ellie and Wade Smotherman, Anna, Will, and Emmi Garrison; several nieces and nephews. A private family service will be held at a later date.
