Virgie Russell Laughlin

Virgie Russell Laughlin of Morgan Mill, TX passed away Friday, Nov.4, 2011. He was 90 years old. Funeral services will be at 2pm Monday, November 7th, at Morgan Mill Church of Christ with Frank Briscoe officiating. Burial will follow in the Morgan Mill Cemetery with Stephenville Funeral Home overseeing arrangements. Visitation will be 5 PM to 7 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Virgil Russell Laughlin was born Jan 6, 1921 to Benjamin F. Laughlin Jr. and Dollie Earp Laughlin. He married Emma Orlene Cantrell, Dec 5, 1942 in Sacramento, CA during WWII. Following the war the two returned to Morgan Mill to make their home and raise their family. They were married 65 years and had 3 children Donovan Frank, Judy Lee and Faye Elaine. Mr. Laughlin served as Post Master in Morgan Mill for 32 years. He spent his life as a rancher, auctioneer and cattle trader. He auctioned at sale barns and benefit auctions in Erath and surrounding counties for many years. He was a well know cattle trader and dealt in all sorts of livestock from cattle, to horses, to goats, and anything in between. Russell was very proud of Morgan Mill and played an instrumental part in his community. Through the years he was active in the Morgan Mill Church of Christ, the Morgan Mill Riding Club and served on the Soil and Water Conservation District Board. Mr. Laughlin loved children and gave generously of him time and abilities to help many children's organizations. Mr. Laughlin is survived by his children Donnie Laughlin and wife Charlotte of Lubbock, Judy Richey and husband Phil of Brownwood, and Elaine Riddle and husband Alvin of Grandview; six grandchildren, Andy Laughlin and wife Gina of Lubbock, Amy Carranza and husband Joe of Cypress, Phyllis Havens and husband Zach of Stephenville, MaryLynn King and husband Justin of Brownwood, Jennifer Krause and husband Steffan of Alexandria, VA and Kelly Riddle and wife Kristi of Waxahachie; nine great grandchildren; two sister's Daisy Young of Ft Worth, Jennie Mae and husband Daniel Bauer of Oregon and one brother Luke and wife Denise of Ft Worth. He was preceeded in death by his wife, Orlene; parents, Ben and Dollie Laughlin; brothers Carl Laughlin and Ben Junior Laughlin; and sister's Exa Adams, Bernadine Allen and Sylvia Rosato.
