Vernon 'Fiddle' Derrick

Vernon ‘Fiddle’ Derrick, 92, of Stephenville, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2023.

Funeral services for Fiddle will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, February 21st at Stephenville Funeral Home with Pastor Ed Dittfurth officiating.  Burial will follow at East Memorial Cemetery in Stephenville.  Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM Tuesday (one hour prior to services).

Vernon was born on March 18, 1930, in Bluff Dale to the late Robert Lee and Johnnie Pinson Derrick.  He married Joann Stanford on February 19, 1955, in Lawton, Oklahoma.  Fiddle spent his entire life in the used car business.  He was a member of the Methodist Church of Bluff Dale, and a lifelong resident of Erath County.

Fiddle is survived by his wife, Joann; children, Cindy and husband Roger Spears, Greg and wife Marcy Derrick, and Gwen and husband Chuck Bielemeier; grandchildren, Becky and husband James Israel, Russell Spears, Renae Warren, and Sebastian Dwayne Derrick; sister, Zelma Hancock; and several great grandchildren, including Bryson, Logan, Trinity, and Savannah.

Besides his parents, Fiddle was also preceded in death by a son, Dwayne; brothers Dewey and R. L.; and sisters, Vivian and Hazel.
