Verbie Hazel Wood Burns, 101, of Morgan Mill, died Friday, January 22, 2021 in Stephenville.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 26th at Morgan Mill Cemetery in Morgan Mill with Reverend Marianne Brown-Trigg of the Morgan Mill Methodist Church officiating.

Verbie was born May 30, 1919 in the Sap Oak Community, to the late Robert Pierce Wood and Lillian Smith Wood.  She graduated from Morgan Mill High School.  Verbie married Earl Lee Burns, Jr. on October 22, 1939 in Huckabay.  Earl preceded her in death on August 23, 2011.

Verbie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a great-great grandmother.  She loved making baby quilts, jelly, and chocolate pies.  She was the pianist for the Morgan Mill Methodist Church for many years, where she was an active member.  Verbie helped organize, and took part in the Morgan Mill Arts & Crafts Fair.  She was also a member of the Morgan Mill Senior Citizens.  Her love for life, her family, and helping others were her main purposes for life.  She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

Verbie is survived by her daughter, and husband, Sarah and Owen Rasberry of Stephenville; daughter and husband, Mary and Joe Harrison of Mingus; daughter-in-law, Loretta Burns of Dublin; brother and wife, Robert Leon and Dottie Wood of Houston; sister-in-law, Geneva Burns of Caldwell; grandchildren, Rick and Ann Burns, Brad Burns, Sherrye and Randy Mills, Landon and Sandra Stallings, Senisa and Jamie Roper, Trent and Michelle Harrison; 16 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, many nieces, and nephews, and cousins.

Besides her parents, and husband, Earl; Verbie was also preceded in death by a son, Eddie Lee Burns; grandson, Mike Burns; sister and brother-in-law, Cletis and Frank Butler; sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Reverend Charles Mc Clure.

The Burns family wishes expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to the charity of the donor’s choice.

A special thanks to the doctors and staff at Senior Care for the wonderful care they gave our mother.

The Burns also ask that all those who honor their mother in attendance at the Morgan Mill cemetery, please wear MASKS, and social distance from one another.
