Velma Hanshew Koonsman

Velma Hanshew Koonsman, 97, of Stephenville, died Saturday, August 30, 2008, at Harris Methodist Erath County Hospital. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, at Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Mitchell Cemetery in Iredell. Visitation will be at 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Stephenville Funeral Home Velma was born January 16, 1911, in Iredell to the late Willie Kent and Winnie Flanary Hanshew. She married December 27, 1933 in Walnut Springs to L. S. ‘Luke' Koonsman. He preceded her in death October 2, 1993. Velma was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Iredell. She has lived in Stephenville since 1958 moving here from Iredell. She worked several years at the S & H Green Stamps store, and was a housewife. Survivors include her five children, Martin LeRoy Koonsman of Red Oak, Paula LaVerne and husband Weldon Josey of Waco, Kenneth Ronald and wife Kay Koonsman of Mingus, Melba Jean and husband Bill Vandaveer of Waco, and Mickey and wife Karan Koonsman of Stephenville; sister, Nevada Davis of Killeen; sister-in-laws, Mozell Hanshew, Neva Blue, and Pauline Hanshew all of Iredell, and Evelyn Wickman of Fort Worth; eleven grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews Family wishes expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to the First United Methodist Church of Iredell, or to their favorite charity.
