Vashti Williamson Keahey, age 101, of Bluff Dale, Texas, died Friday, December 10, 2010 at Oakwood Assisted Living in Stephenville. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 13, 2010 at the Bluff Dale First United Methodist Church with Reverend Laraine Waughtal officiating. Burial will follow at the Wesley Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Stephenville Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday December 12, 2010 at the Stephenville Funeral Home from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M. Vi, as she was called by family and friends, was born January 1, 1909, in Morgan Mill, Texas to the late Garland and Julie Herring Williamson. She attended public school at Fairview and then John Tarleton College where she received her teaching certificate. She taught school until her marriage to Wendell Keahey on November 24, 1933 in Carlton, Texas. Wendell and Vi moved to the Keahey Homestead near Bluff Dale where they began their life together in a log cabin that had been built in 1869. She was a longstanding member of the First United Methodist Church of Bluff Dale and was a charter member of the Women's Society of the Christian Service. Vi was also a charter member of the Bluff Dale Study Club and Garden Club. She will be remembered as someone who loved her family, God, and who also loved nothing better than a good story and an audience with a willing ear. Vi was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Lowe Keahey, in 1988. Survivors are sons, Mike Keahey and wife Tama of Bluff Dale, and Kirby Keahey and wife Vera of Houston; grandchildren, Mike Keahey and wife Elizabeth, Michelle Keahey, Jennifer Keahey, Laura Keahey, Sandra Lane and husband Brian, and Angie Reeves and husband Wes; as well as 6 great grandchildren.
