Sammie Harris Carter

Sammie Harris Carter, 92, of Stephenville, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2013 in Fort Worth. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, March 14th at Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel, with Don Parker officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Sammie was born on May 17, 1920 in Stephenville, to the late Samuel Clayton and Ammie Hopkins Pemberton. She married J. P. Harris on July 13, 1947 in Stephenville. He preceded her in death on September 22, 1973. Sammie later married Zane Carter on July 29, 1976 in Stephenville. Zane also preceded her in death on April 14, 1986. Sammie spent over 45 years as a service representative for Erath County Electric Cooperative, now United Cooperative Services. She was a member of the Graham Street Church of Christ, and a lifelong resident of Stephenville. Sammie is survived by a niece, Ruby Dale Carter of Stephenville; cousin, Elizabeth Zickefoose of Stephenville; several great nieces and nephews, Kevin Norcross, Kimberley Winfrey, Judith Ray, Roland Ray, Clayton Yeager, Jim Yeager, and Ken Yeager. She was also preceded in death by a nephew, Carl Norcross. Family wishes expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to Foster Home for Children in Stephenville, or to the Knights of Pythias Children's Home in Weatherford.
