Ruth (Wallace) Mannis

January 25, 1940 — November 6, 2023

On Monday, November 6, 2023, our precious mother, Claris Ruth (Wallace) Mannis, passed away
peacefully at the age of 83 years old. Better known to us as Mother, Mom, and Nana, she was one of the
strongest women you would ever meet and was very loved by many.
Ruth was born on January 25, 1940, to Clara Jane York and Michael Wallace at home in Whitesburg,
Georgia. She had two children that loved her unconditionally, Tina Jo Cash-Virgin and John Jeffrey
Adams. Although she grew up in Georgia, after marrying her true love, Jerry Mannis, the family moved
to Texas in 1977. After moving to Texas, Ruth not only cared for her family but decided she wanted to
fulfill a dream of obtaining her high school diploma and return to school to become a hairdresser and
cosmetology instructor. As a teenager, she was not able to finish high school due to the need to help the
family by going to work. However, she was full of determination and became an instructor of
hairdressing to many high school and older students. She made a mark on many people in Stephenville
and after years of instructing was able to retire. Although she retired from teaching cosmetology, she
decided she had more to give and began hairdressing in the nursing homes, at her home, and other
friend’s homes. She always made sure her hair was “fixed” and her “makeup was perfect” and thought
she needed to help others with the same.
For those that knew Ruth, you immediately knew that she loved animals, especially her cats. Over the
years, she made homes for many stray cats and ones that were given to her. Her name for all of her cats
were her “babies” and they were treated the absolute best.
Ruth is survived by her children Tina Cash-Virgin and John Jeffrey Adams and wife Dana. Aside from
Ruth’s two children, she was blessed with and is survived by three grandsons, one grand-daughter and
four great-grandchildren. Her grandsons are Adam Daniel Cash and wife Meagan, Richard Colbe Cash
and wife Tiffany, and Joshua Leonard Robert Virgin and wife Candace and her only grand-daughter is
Emily Lane Adams which were all very precious to her. Her great-grandchildren are Aidan Clarence
Cash, Saydie Rose Cash, Maddox John Cash, and Autry Ruth Cash. She was so very proud of the family
she helped to build.
Her other survivors include her sister and brother, Nadine Henry and Gary Brown. She was preceded in
death by her parents, siblings Louise Shuler, Jeanette Eason, Phoebe Smith, Michael “Bo” Wallace, Billy
Wallace, and Linda Williams. She loved all of her siblings very much and shared many stories of when
they were younger.
Visitation will be held at the Stephenville Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, from 6:00
