Ruth W. Cavanah

Ruth W. Cavanah, 83, passed away on May 15, 2014 in California, with pancreatic cancer. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, September 22, 2014 at Duffau Cemetery in Duffau to lay to rest her cremains next to her parents and her son. Services are under direction of Stephenville Funeral Home. Ruth was born on August 10, 1930 in Duffau, Texas to the late George and Texana Childress. She was baptized in the Duffau church at a young age, then the family moved to Stephenville. She married at a young age, and had two children, Linda and Rick. Her husband Wayne McHoes was in the US Army. She moved to Fort Worth, and after her divorce met Everett Cavanah who was in the US Air Force. He adopted Linda and Rick. They had two sons together. Ruth lived as a military wife for over twenty years. She worked at various jobs but most of the time she was a housewife. She retired from The Salvation Army. She loved dogs and had many. Music was her first love. She loved the blues, the oldies, and the music of the 40's and 50's. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed doing her crossword puzzles. She could play the guitar, and the organ. She was a poet, and a storyteller, and had some of her works published. Ruth will be missed by all who loved her. Her wish was to come back to Texas and be buried by her parents, and her son. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Linda Vonk of Fresno California; son, David Cavanah of Merced, California; grandson, Andrew, Karl, and Dennis; four granddaughters, Lisa, Desiree, Shana, and Kendra; step granddaughter, Jonette; great grandchildren, Austin, Justin, Ashley, Serenity, David, Nathan, and Thalen. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Mary Cheek; and by two sons, Robert and Richard Cavanah.
