Ron Newsome

Dr. Ron Newsome, 68, retired professor with the physical education department at Tarleton State University, died Tuesday, April 17, 2012 in Stephenville. Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, April 22th at Wisdom Gym on the campus of Tarleton State University. Services are under direction of Stephenville Funeral Home. Ron was born on September 15, 1943 in Pittsburg, Texas to the late Ross and Frances Newsom. He received his Bachelors, Masters, and Ed.D. in Physical Education at East Texas State in Commerce. He married Alice Arrington on June 6, 1981 in Winnsboro. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Ron is survived by his wife, Alice; son, Seth Newsome of Houston; daughter, Brooke Newsome of New York City; grandchildren, Vivienne and Madeliene; brother, Don and wife Carol Newsom of McKinney; nephews, Tim and Tom Newsom and their families; mother-in-law, Frances Arrington of Stephenville; brother-in-law, Ben and wife Darlene Arrington of Mexia Family wishes expressions of sympathy to be made to a Scholarship to be named at Tarleton State in Ron's memory, or the Ross Newsom Teaching Award Scholarship at Adrian College in Adrian, Michigan, or to any of the Texas A & M Commerce Athletic or Physical Education Scholarships.
