Rodney Copeland

Beloved Honey, Dad, Grampy, cowboy and pharmacist, Rodney Copeland, is now dancing on the streets of heaven with his Lord and Savior. Rodney Ross Copeland was born on September 11th, 1940 in Mangum, Oklahoma, and woke up at the feet of Jesus on Monday morning, September 12th, 2022. Rod adored his wife, Floe, and his daughters, Robin Williams and Amy Jackson. His goal in life was to take care of his girls and serve others, and he did both with so much love and passion.

Rodney is survived by his wife of 58 years, Floe, daughters Robin and Amy, son-in-law Ronald,  his grandchildren Ross Telles and wife Renee, Dusty Copeland, Dason Carter and wife Ashley, Kambree Carter and her partner Greg, Lacy Lenhart and her partner Mark, Cara Glaske and her husband Zack, Lane Williams, plus bonus granddaughter Sidney Cisco and her husband Charles, his great-grandchildren Bryson, Cadence, Brooklynn, Grey, Harper, Riggs, Dean, and bonus great-granddaughter Brynlee. Rod had three very special nieces, Raelene, Kathy, and Esther, and a nephew Ray. He also had a very special adopted son, Greg Yawakia, that came to live with the Copeland’s as a teenager. Greg has three children and several grandchildren of his own. Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, Elvis and Lorena Copeland, his sister, Venita Barnett,  and the mother-in-law that he adored, Zoe Garvin.

Rodney was a pharmacist for 54 years, receiving his degree from the University of Oklahoma (Boomer Sooner!), and worked every day in his cowboy boots. Rod loved his horses. There was nothing in life giving him more pleasure than spending time with his horses, especially when it was with his wife and girls. He rode thousands of miles with various trail ride organizations, and even received two ‘golden turd’ awards for the best horseman. He enjoyed the old ways of the cowboy – cooking on an open flame, using a saddle as a pillow, and his jingle-bob spurs. He never went anywhere without his cowboy hat and his knife; if asked if he had his knife with him, he would reply, ‘do I have my pants on?’ and grin. It was fitting that his final ride is what ushered him into the arms of Jesus – he wouldn’t have had it any other way. Rod loved his dogs, tending his garden, reading western novels, and enjoying Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla ice cream every night. He made the best sourdough cinnamon rolls, peanut patties, and homemade fudge. He was an incredibly kind and gentle man, with a servant’s heart for others, that was only eclipsed by his heart for the Lord. His Bible is worn out because it was opened and read from so often, and he was zealous about living out what he read. Rod loved his Sooners football, though he wasn’t allowed to watch them very often because he became just a little too spirited as he watched – he'd have to check the score first, to determine if it was ‘OK’ to watch it!

Rodney’s memorial service will be on Saturday, October 8th at 2pm at Selden Baptist Church. Rather than a visitation, the family invites all who attend to stay after the service for dessert, which was Rod’s favorite.
