Robert (Bob) Lowell Thornton, 86, passed away Friday, January 28, 2022 in Stephenville.

DUE TO WEATHER, Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 5, 2022 at the Stephenville Funeral Home with Minister Frank Briscoe officiating. Interment will follow at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Stephenville. The family will receive visitors on Saturday before the service at the Stephenville Funeral Home.

Bob was born in Abilene, Texas July 10, 1935 to Phillip Morgan Thornton and Eva (Ray) Thornton. His early years were spent mostly in Abilene where he met the love of his life, Delma Jean Donawho. They were married in Abilene on September 7, 1956.

Bob had several careers over the years. He was proud to be known as an industrial construction millwright and maintenance mechanic. He rose to foreman, general foreman, supervisor/superintendent in these trades. He retired from TXU Nuclear Plant 10-31-1992 where he was Sr. Eng. Tech in the mechanical maintenances Planning Dept. He then started a cabinet shop but due to health reasons was forced to retire from that. His hobbies were woodworking and art. He also loved to play the guitar and sing old country and was learning the fiddle.

Bob was baptized at Rockport, Texas when he was 11 years of age and served as a deacon on three occasions and as an elder in the Lord’s Church for a few years. He last two congregations were Tolar and Hillcrest Church of Christ. His greatest accomplishment was being a Christian. He loved his family deeply.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Phillip Morgan Thornton and Eva (Ray) Thornton; step mother, Juanita Thornton; Brothers, Leonard Ray Thornton, Crawford Dean, Donald Mack; sisters, Nancy Felton and Nina Beth.

Bob is survived by his wife Delma Jean Donawho Thornton of Stephenville, Texas; daughter Sharon Palmer Trahan and husband Rick Trahan of Cisco, Texas; son Robert Paul Thornton and wife Tammy Charbonneau of Lakehills, Texas; Four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, three sister-n-laws and numerous nieces and nephews.
