Rip Thornburg

Rip Thornburg, 80, of Morgan Mill, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2023.

Funeral services for Rip will be at 2:00 PM, Monday, January 23rd at Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel with Weldon Branham officiating.  Burial will follow at Morgan Mill Cemetery.

Rip was born on July 18, 1942, in Pampa, Texas, to the late Orvil Thornburg, Jr. and Joshua Marie Everett Thornburg.  He married Margaret Ann Byrd on June 22, 1963, in Odessa.  Rip attended public school in Pampa, and later attended Lamar University in Beaumont.  Rip was in construction owning and operating Rip’s Rocky Road, Inc.  He loved racing, everything from boats to automobiles.  Rip operated the Morgan Mill Riding Club, and Saddle Shows for over 15 years.  He raised dogs, and loved his ‘Aussies’; you never saw Rip without his loyal companions.  Rip attended the Palo Pinto Cowboy Church, and he and Margaret have lived 38 years in Morgan Mill community.  He spent his life as a ‘hard’ working man, but he loved to spend time with his family.

Rip is survived by his wife, Margaret; sons, Brandon and wife Ann Thornburg of Lipan, and Tanner and his wife Sky Thornburg of Morgan Mill; grandchildren, Shia Williams, Brylyn Thornburg, and Cade Thornburg; sisters, Elayne and husband Don McGehee of Amarillo, Aleen Walker of Houston, and Shirley Thornburg of Trophy Club; brother Danny and wife Trish Thornburg of Royce City; several nieces and nephews; and his two beloved Aussies, Cajun and Tex.
