Rev. Dale Harter

Rev. Dale Max Harter October 14, 1921-November 3, 2015 Rev. Dale Max Harter, 94, of Stephenville Texas, passed away on November 3, 2015. Dale was born in Mankato, Jewel County, Kansas, October 14, 1921 to Earl P. and Lelia Blanche Emery Harter. He spent his youth in Kansas, Colorado, Texas, and Idaho, graduating from Boise High School. He attended Northwest Christian College, Eugene Oregon, where he entered the ministry with the Christian Church Disciples of Christ. He continued his education earning his Masters of Divinity from Brite Divinity School of Theology at Texas Christian University. While attending NCC in Oregon, he met and married, Mary Olive Winn, the love of his life, of Bakersfield, California. They were married for 66 years before her passing in March 2011. Together, they raised five children, served in the ministry for over 50 plus years in rural churches of Oregon, Oklahoma, Montana, California, Idaho, Texas, New Mexico and the summer of 1993 in Saudi Arabia. As a teenager, he survived the Great Depression, the Dustbowl Days of Dalhart, Texas, constructed cabins in Estes Park, Colorado and helped build the large stone fireplace at the YMCA campground dinning hall at Payette Lake of McCall, ID. His adult life was dedicated to the ministry and his family. His life spanned from the simple Model T Ford to the sophisticated Toyota Hybrid Prius. He experienced flight from the single engine propeller to the Boeing Superliner 777. Dale was predeceased by his wife Mary; daughter Patricia Harter Hansmeier of Kent, WA; brothers Earl Harter, Vienna, VA; Leland Harter, Jacksonville, OR; and Wayne Harter, Sun City, AZ. He is survived by sister Mary Lou Reynolds of Georgetown, TX, son Daniel Harter (Linda) Waco, TX, daughters, Joy Cobbs (Hartzell) of Boise, ID, Kathleen Stripling (Keith) of Stephenville, TX, and Silvia Slaten (Jon) of Midland, TX, thirteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. A memorial service is pending at a later date in Boise, Idaho. The family would like to extend their grateful appreciation to the staff of Good Tree Assisted Living facility, Stephens Home Health Care, Stephenville Senior Care, Mission Hospice, Rev.
