Phillip was born on August 31, 1946, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Byron William Ray and Mary Jo (Bursey) Ray. After finishing high school, Phillip went on to continue his education by receiving a bachelor’s, and later a master's degree from Tarleton State University. On December 29, 1984, in Brad, Texas, he married the love of his life, Melodee Mallory. Phillip was an industrial arts teacher for 30 years in Killeen, Texas. Eventually he and his wife settled down in the Stephenville area. Phillip spent many happy years hunting, fishing and snake hunting, because he loved the outdoors so much. He was a talented artist and craftsman. He was an amazing teacher, and inspired his students and shared his knowledge eagerly. He gave many shows and demonstrations on Native American culture to adults and students alike. He loved garage sales and he kept it all in his truck and his beloved shop. His wife of 40 years children, family and friends will dearly miss his laugh and smile.
Phillip is survived by his wife, Melodee Ray of Stephenville, his son, Monty Ray and wife, Monica Ray of Houston, his daughter Mallory Ray of Stephenville, his sister Ann Eldredge of Houston, Grandchildren; Veronica Ray, Everette Ray, and Alexander Colcleasure, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Phillip is preceded in death by his parents, Byron and Jo Ray, and his brother-in-law, Steve Eldredge.
Officiating Phil's service will be Reverend Michael Orsini.
In honor of Phillip donations can be named to the Humane Society of Stephenville.
