On Saturday, September 21, 2019, Petrus "Peter" Wulfridus DeRidder passed away at age 55.
Peter was born on July 15, 1964 in Hoogland, The Netherlands. Peter dairy farmed in East Texas from 1985-1988 prior to moving to Iredell, Texas, where he dairy farmed for more than 30 years.
On August 9, 2012, Peter married Hedy Leyendekker of Hico. With this union, Peter became family to Nelly and Rusty, Sidney and Lauren, Steve and Taylor, Cody and Haley, and two grandchildren, John Luke and Matthew. Peter was a loving husband, a caring father, a very proud grandfather to two grandsons that called him "Opa" and a good friend to many.
Peter was passionate about dairy farming, his cows, going to sales and auctions, and tinkering with equipment. Peter fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming an American citizen this past spring. He took a trip to the Netherlands in early summer to celebrate the wedding anniversary of his sister Riet and her husband Herman, and reunited with his siblings Henriette and Fred and their families for the first time in 30 years - a very special occasion for all. Peter always attended family events, played card games late in the evening with family, and could always talk equipment with Sidney, Steve, Cody and Rusty. Peter and Hedy enjoyed each other's company and went out for dinner every Saturday night. He loved watching his grandsons' play and treasured hearing all their stories. Peter was known for seeing the potential in everything, had a quick witted sense of humor, a friend to all, and the saying ‘one man's junk is another man's treasure' was truly Peter's passion.
Peter was preceded in death by his father and mother, Petrus Christiaan DeRidder and Jacoba Hendrika DeRidder-Nieuwenburg. He is survived by his wife Hedy of Hico, his step-daughter Nelly DiCiccio and husband Rusty of Hico, his grandchildren, John Luke and Matthew, his step-son Sidney Leyendekker and wife Lauren of Stephenville, his step-son Steve Leyendekker and girlfriend Taylor Bell of Hico, his step-son Cody Leyendekker and girlfriend Haley Goss of Hico, his sister Henriette van de Grootevheen and husband Hans of The Netherlands, his niece Esther and nephew Thomas, his sister Riet van Burgsteden and husband Herman of The Netherlands, his niece Lisa and nephews Joost and Lucas, his brother Fred DeRidder and his late wife Sonica of Australia, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Peter will be missed dearly by numerous family and friends.
A visitation with family will be held Thursday, September 26, 2019 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Stephenville Funeral Home in Stephenville. A funeral service will be held Friday, September 27, 2019, at 10 a.m. at the Stephenville Christian Reformed Church in Stephenville with Pastor Brian Tarpy officiating. Burial will follow at Indian Creek Cemetery.
