Opal Brummett, 101, of Stephenville, died Friday, July 11, 2014 in Stephenville. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, July 13th at Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel with Don Parker officiating and Chris Stephen assisting. Burial will follow at West End Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Miss Opal was born on August 14, 1912 in Erath County, Texas to the late James and Martha Bills Gazaway. She married Thurman Carter on March 3, 1934 in Erath County; he preceded her in death on March 31, 1966. Later, Miss Opal married Clifford Brummett on October 11, 1970; he preceded her in death on January 16, 1975. She spent many years as a teacher in several schools in Erath County before working with children at Foster's Home for Children and later worked as a librarian. Miss Opal was a lifelong resident of Stephenville and a faithful member of Graham Street Church of Christ. Miss Opal is survived by her daughter, Anita Dennis of Stephenville; nephew, Jerry Gazaway of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Mike Gibson of Odessa, Terry Gibson of San Marcos, Charlotte Gibson of Elk City, Oklahoma, and Lauree Dehner of Bethany, Oklahoma; 12 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great grandchildren; and 1 great-great-great grandson; stepson, Jack Brummett of Colorado; and stepdaughter, Cliftene Leavell of New Mexico.
