Olene Bates Hancock

Olene Bates Hancock, 101, of Stephenville, died Friday, May 08, 2009 in Stephenville. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, May 11, at Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Neal Wade officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Sunday at Stephenville Funeral Home. Olene was born July 10, 1907, in Coryell County to the late William Robert and Fannie Bell Wigington Bates. She married Jack T. Hancock, October 27, 1928, in Stephenville, and he preceded her in death March 29, 1970. She was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church. Olene and her husband operated grocery stores for several years in Lipan and Stephenville, and operated a dairy for many years. She spent over 35 years in childcare. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence and Peggy Hancock of Stephenville; grandsons, Michael, Bobby, and Johnny Hancock; six great grandchildren, and seven great great grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Zelma Hancock. She was preceded in death by a son, Jack Wesley Hancock; a grandson, Jackie Hancock; a granddaughter, Dee Ann Hancock; also by two sisters and three brothers Family request expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to the American Heart Assn. or the Alzheimer's Assn.
