Norman Eugene Carlson

April 24, 1935 — October 8, 2024

Norman Eugene Carlson, 89, passed away at his home on October 8, 2024, surrounded by family. He was born on April 24, 1935, to Klaus Grønvold and Ragnhild (Hagelund) Grønvold, in Toten, Norway. He was later adopted by his loving parents, Emil August and Petronelle ‘Nellie’ (Grønvold) Carlson. After completing his education, he went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force; he worked as a jet mechanic during this time. Later, he worked in Print Operations for the Waupaca County Post, and he was an installer and trainer for Fairchild Print Corporation. He then went on to become his own boss when he owned and operated Norm’s Printing, and at one point in his life he worked as a City Building Inspector and Tax Assessor for the City of Waupaca, WI. His final job was working as a project engineer for Kimberly-Clark Corporation before his retirement in 1998.

On September 7, 1957, he married the love of his life, Beverly Overfield, in Peru, Indiana, with whom he spent 67 happy years as a devoted husband. He was a loving husband and dad to his daughters and son-in-law. He was a man of God and a prayer warrior. Norman was involved in teaching Sunday school and in nursing home ministry. He played the organ at the church he attended and was on the church board. Most recently, he attended the Assembly of God Church in De Leon, TX and Stephenville Church of the Nazarene, Stephenville, TX. He enjoyed woodworking, cross stitching, and playing several different instruments, including the piano, accordion and the dulcimer. He was a fun-loving person with a great sense of humor and a servant’s heart; he will be greatly
missed.

Norman is survived by his wife, Beverly Carlson of Stephenville, TX, his daughters, Esther Carlson of Dublin, CA, Deborah Carlson of Leander, TX, and Ruth Brannon and her husband, Garry of Stephenville, TX, his grandson, Joseph Brannon of Granbury, TX, as well as his sisters, Maryann Skullerud of Gjovik, Norway, and Aase Olsby of Toten, Norway and sister-in-law Kathleen Carlson of Crestview, Illinois.

Norman is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Magnhild Slettum, and his brothers, Jacob Grønvold, Kristian Grønvold, and Ernest Carlson.

Visitation will be at 9 A.M. on Friday, October 11, 2024, followed by a memorial service at 10 A.M. at Stephenville Church of the Nazarene, Stephenville, TX, with Curt Plaxco as the officiating minister and Randy R. Munter assisting. A graveside service will follow at Erath Gardens of Memory.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Norman’s honor to the American Cancer Society.
