Mike Masuda

April 5, 1924 — February 10, 2015

Mike Masuda, 90, of Stephenville, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2015 in Stephenville. Memorial Services will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church on Friday, Feb. 20 at 2:00pm. Mike was born in Fresno, California to Mataichiro and Tasu Masuda, one of 8 children. He was a typical teen boy who loved sports. His life was changed by the onset of WWII when he and his family were sent to Jerome, AR. to the Japanese internment camps. In his true spirit, he was never resentful or bitter. He and his brothers used it as an opportunity to be independent and bond together. To show his love and loyalty to his country, he applied to the U.S. Army, where he underwent training to become an interpreter for the Military Intelligence Service. After the war, he married the love of his life, JoAnn, and they were married for 63 years. He went into the poultry business and settled in Stephenville for the rest of his life because he loved the hometown atmosphere. After being shot in a robbery at the Tejas Golf Club, he knew God had given him a second chance at life, and he lived it to the fullest. He never met a stranger; was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, the American Legion, the Child Welfare Board, and the Kiwanis. He enjoyed golfing, dancing, and debating current issues with the "Old Goats Club." He was a gentle soul, who had learned to forgive others and enjoy life to the fullest. Mike is survived by his wife, JoAnn of Stephenville; daughter, Michelle Berry and her husband, Joe of Cypress; son, Dwight Masuda of Greensboro, NC; granddaughters, Courtney, Amy, Carly Berry , Ericka Romero and husband, Pat, Sophia Masuda; grandson, DeMarcos Masuda; great - grandsons, Weston Miles, Shyah Romero, and great-granddaughter, Naylahni Romero. Memorials can be made to St. Luke's Episcopal Church, the American Legion, the Kiwanis Club, or charity of your choice.
