Melba Peters McCoy, 77, of Stephenville, died Sunday, June 5, 2011 in Bedford. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Mitchell Cemetery in Iredell. Visitation will be held 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Melba was born June 22, 1933 in Granbury, Texas. She was the youngest of four children: Jerome, Mary Ella, and Ed, Jr. She attended school in Granbury. Melba graduated from Granbury High School on May 30, 1950. She attended Texas Wesleyan College for one year before marrying Donald McCoy on August 18, 1951. Melba moved to Stephenville in 1977 from El Paso. She owned Home Décor in Stephenville from 1978 until 1987. Melba was very involved in many organizations. She was an active member of Laureate Delta Epsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi and Zonta Club. She is a former member of the following organizations: Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and Ambassadors Club, Downtown Business and Professional Association (2 years as secretary), Crime Stoppers Board of Directors, El Paso A&M Mother's Club (2 years as president) and Texas A&M Mother's Club (2nd vice president 1977-1978). Melba was very active in the PTA for her three children as well as athletic and band boosters clubs. She served as president of Beta Sigma Phi City Council from 1995-1996. Melba is survived by her three children and their spouses, Stephen and Cindy McCoy, Bill and Teresa McCoy, Kathi and Tom Schlientz; seven grandchildren, Shae Segovia, John McCoy, Kayla McCause, Clint McCoy, Kelsey McCoy, Jared Buske, and Lauren Buske; three great grandchildren, Alexa Segovia, Ella Segovia, and Carter McCoy. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and many friends. Melba was preceded in death by her husband, Donald McCoy; brothers, Jerome Peters and Ed Peters, Jr.; and by her sister, Mary Ella Perdue. In lieu of flowers, the family requests charitable contributions to HOPE, First United Methodist Clothes Closet, or the American Cancer Society
