Maxine was born on August 18, 1920 in Oilton, Oklahoma to the late Frank and Hazel France Smith. She married Ray Oniel Wright on November 2, 1940 in St. Elmo, Illinois. Ray preceded her in death on October 15, 2001. She was a faithful Church of Christ preacher's wife for over 55 years. On February 9, 2007, Maxine married Joe Clapp in Stephenville. Maxine attended Abilene Christian College and in 1938 was selected as school sweetheart. During WWII when Ray was serving in the military, Maxine taught school in Illinois. Ray and Maxine served Churches of Christ in Idaho, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas and Texas. Maxine was a very active preacher's wife in the various congregations that Ray ministered to. She was selected as the first secretary of Lubbock Christian College/University Associates in the 1950s. Ray and Maxine were missionaries to Panama in 1959, and served the Graham Street Church of Christ in 1960-61, and at that time Ray and Maxine started the Bible Chair (Tri-C) college ministry near Tarleton State University. Ray and Maxine moved back to Stephenville, and has resided here over 20 years. She was a faithful member of the Graham Street Church of Christ, and a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Joe Clapp; daughters, Patty and husband Don Jones of Stephenville, Michelle and husband Andy Ackermann of New Braunfels, Jennifer Wright of Weatherford, and Kristee Thomas also of Weatherford; grandchildren, Le and wife Tammy Jones of Stephenville, Scott and wife Whitney Ackermann of Austin, Troy and wife Pam Jones of Stephenville, Christopher Ackermann of Azle, Daniel Ackermann of Whitehouse, Guy and wife Rena Ackermann of Ringgold, LA, Ben and wife Megan Ackermann of Austin, and Mindy and husband Bryan Bykowski of New Braunfels, great grandchildren, Tylan, Curren, Leissa, Kelcee, Easton, Tansy, Dylan, Celie, Barak, Ari, Cylas, Saidji, Eden, and Brylie. Beside her parents and husband, Ray, Maxine was also preceded in death by an infant son, Frankie Doyle Wright, and an brother, Donald Smith.
