Mary Alice Barnes, 78, of Stephenville, Texas died March 17, 2009, in Houston, Funeral Services will be held at 10:00am Saturday, March 21, at Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rodney Weatherly of First Baptist Church in Dalhart officiating. Interment will follow at the Erath Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday March 20 at Stephenville Funeral Home Mary was born August 15, 1930 in Chatham, Louisiana. She married Lanis Barnes of Pasadena, Texas on August 24, 1947. The couple enjoyed 51 years of marriage and had three children. Kindness would best describe Mary. She was devoted to her church work and spent most of her life teaching Sunday School and working with youth. She was always thinking of others and spent hours sending out birthday or get well cards to friends. She was quick to respond to a friend in need with financial help or to prepare a meal or a fresh baked pie. She was an animal lover and when unable to accept any more strays, she would find someone who would. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. She will be deeply missed by her family and the many friends whose lives she touched. Mary was a member of Harvey Baptist Church in Stephenville. Mary was preceded in death by husband Lanis Barnes of Stephenville, parents, Charles and Etta Womack and brother, Donald Womack of Chatham, Louisiana. Survivors: Daughter, Dixie Lee Garnett and husband Don of Corpus Christi; daughter, Mary (Neicy) Barnes of Stephenville; son, Bill Barnes and wife Barbara of Houston; grandson, Lee Garnett of Albuquerque, NM; sister-in-law, Doris Howell, niece, Gypsy O'Neal and husband Tim; great niece, Toni Ruggles and husband Todd; great nephew, Tyler O'Neal all of Ft. Scott, KS; and great nephew, Marcus O'Neal of Madisonville. Pallbearers: Doug Burns, Lee Garnett, Tony Leach, Tim O'Neal and L.R. Weldon.
