Martha E. Harris, 85, of Stephenville, died Saturday, August 03, 2013 in Fort Worth. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 7th at First United Methodist Church, with Reverend Howard Martin officiating; burial to follow at West End Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday at Stephenville Funeral Home. Martha was born September 15, 1927 in Stephenville to the late Albert Edward and Leta Gertrude Gaither Emmett. She graduated with a bachelor's degree from Southwestern University in Georgetown, and continued to support the university into her latter years. Martha married Edward R. Harris on October 25, 1959 in Stephenville. He preceded her in death February 1, 1967. Martha was very active at First United Methodist Church, a member of UMW, and she lived most of her life in Stephenville. She did clerical accounting for Tarleton State University over 20 years, and also served in that capacity at First United Methodist Church over 10 years. Martha is survived by a son Charles and wife Pam Harris of Stephenville; daughter, Lori and husband Steve Gilles of Leander; granddaughter, Misty Miller; and great granddaughters, Makayla and Cate Miller; nieces Glenna and husband Danny Bodeker of Whitney, Marilyn and husband Dennis Hallford of Las Cruces, NM, and Vicki Cook of Stephenville; special friends, Jane Woodward and her family of China Spring; 3 great nieces and 3 great nephews; and 8 great great nephews and 4 great great nieces. The Harris family wishes expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to the First United Methodist Church.
