Maison Joseph (Joe ) Abshire was born September 14, 1939, in Crowley,
Louisiana, lived a hell of a life, and passed away on January 13, 2025 in
Stephenville, Texas.
Maison was the second son of Theo Joseph Abshire and Effie Abshire. He resided
in Louisiana with his family until he married his first wife Dorothy Smith of Rayne
Louisiana. After they were married, Maison worked for a while in small town
bakery until he learned to be a welder then he and his then wife began traveling to
follow construction work. Later in life, he and Dorothy were divorced. Maison
soon met Geraldine Irene Peterson of Butte, Montana, and they were married
shortly thereafter.
After being offered work in foreign countries, he traveled and worked in 13
different countries and finally took a position with a major oil company in
Indonesia where he spent 21 years. During all this travel, after completion of an
assignment in Venezuela, Geraldine decided to settle down and let Maison
continue his career with the overseas work. They purchased a home in Butte and
settled there. Maison continued working overseas until 2015 when he finally
decided to semi-retire. He then continued doing on-line consulting work.
Maison was well respected in the construction field and known as a man who
believed that nothing was impossible. His favorite saying was, “You won’t know it
can’t be done until you try at least twice.” And most of the time it worked!
Maison was proceeded in death by his wife Geraldine Irene Abshire, his father
Theo Joseph Abshire, mother Effie Abshire, sister Goldy Abshire, brothers Charley
Abshire, and Forest Abshire.
Maison leaves behind one son, John Andrew Abshire, wife Misty of Hico, Texas;
three daughters, Goldie Ann Abshire Scott, husband Brandon of Stephenville,
Texas; Laura Yvette Abshire Kanaday, husband Bryson of Stephenville, Texas;
Anastasia Nola Abshire Kurilich, husband Marco of Butte, Montana; seven
grandsons, three granddaughters, brother Harvey Abshire of Sulphur, Louisiana,
and sister Shelby Ann Abshire Parker of Lake Charles, Louisiana.
