Lynn Alice Yates Lloyd, 68, of Stephenville, Texas, passed away on August 2, 2011 in Arlington, Texas. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life, at Stephenville Funeral Home from 5-7 pm on Thursday August 11, and to a memorial service at 10 AM on Friday August 12. Lynn was born on March 13, 1943 in Vallejo, CA to Helen Adams Yates and Ernest Carlyle Yates. She was the second of four children, and was raised in Lake Elsinore, California. She graduated from Elsinore high school in 1960. She then attended college at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, earning a Bachelors of Science in education in 1964. It is at Cal Poly that she met her husband and life long love Gary Howard Lloyd. They were united in marriage 45 years ago, on June 18th, 1966 in Lake Elsinore, California. Lynn began her passionate journey of teaching children in 1964, starting as a student teacher while attending college. Upon graduation she began her 46 year quest to make sure that every child she came in contact with could read. Lynn believed that a child that could read would always be able to control his or her own destiny in the world. Lynn believed that reading is the cornerstone to a successful life. Lynn and Gary moved to Oregon in the early 1970's to farm, teach and start a family. Christopher Ernest was born in 1971 and Amanda Bessie in 1974. In the early ‘80s they all moved to Arizona. Lynn continued her teaching, taking a job teaching special needs children in Coolidge, AZ., an hour drive each way from the house. In 1990, Lynn moved to Stephenville to join Gary who had moved several months earlier to begin a business helping local dairymen. Shortly after the move Lynn was substitute teaching, and then accepted the library director position at the Stephenville Public Library. The Library allowed Lynn to continue exploring her passions in life; teaching children to read, Genealogy, and quilting. She conducted a children's story hour twice a week for 18 years at the library, influencing several generations of children. She created a Genealogy corner in the Library to share her interest in history and extended family. She met and quilted with dozens of women creating deep relationships. She had a "Quilter's Heart". Lynn was an exceptional woman with deep convictions about service, her faith in the Lord, and her family. Those that were close to her will miss her.
