Lowell Gerald Wood (L.G., also known as Speedy) STEPHENVILLE - Born Jan. 20, 1917 in Stephenville, Texas to Chris and Mattie Wood. He met his loving wife, Aleene Wood, of 66 years in Stephenville, while she visited her grandparents. Aleene passed away Jan. 17, 2006. He is survived by his sister LaFoyl Caudle of Acton, Texas. He was preceded in death by brother Norval and sister Etoile Page. Lowell left peacefully Thursday in the early morning at home with loved ones at his side following a major heart attack 10 days earlier. Lowell's memorial service will be held Friday, April 3, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. at the Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel. Lowell and his wife Aleene had three sons, Mical, who preceded them in death in 1987; Clark (married to Sylvia) of Austin. and Kendall of Conroe. Lowell was a deeply loving husband, father, grand-father and great-grand-father. He served as a Merchant Marine during World War II and worked for Dupont for 36 years at Orange, Texas where he was an active member of the Park Avenue Methodist Church. He and Aleene retired to Stephenville, Texas, in 1982 where he was an active volunteer with H.O.P.E., First Methodist Church, and Harris Methodist Erath County Hospital. An avid golfer all his life, he had several holes in one to his credit. He has five grandchildren, Stephen, Paul (married to Nancy), Joel (married to Annette), Eric (married to Jennifer) and Troy. He also has two great-grand-children, Vincent and Laurel.
