Lewie Byron Hughes was born September 9, 1928 in Seminole, Texas, went to be home with his Father in Heaven on December 31, 2021.
Lewie was a devoted Christian man and loved the Lord. He served 2 years in the US Army. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hico for many years. Lewie married Joyce on March 27th, 1998 in Stephenville Texas. Lewie was a lifelong cowboy, rancher, and horse trainer. His hobbies involved playing the guitar, singing, and playing dominos. He wrote and sang many songs. Lewie organized a band he called Lewie and Friends. They volunteered their music for churches, nursing homes, private functions, local senior citizens center and he serenaded his wife Joyce for the 23 years they were married. Still at the age of 93, he enjoyed playing and singing daily. Lewie loved to play dominos and 42, but rarely could he win against his wife Joyce. Lewie also loved to tell stories that could last for some time. An interesting fact about Lewie that some may not know is that he played a small part in two movies.
Lewie was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Lewie is survived by his wife Billye Joyce, daughter Tina Lentine and husband Jim, stepchildren Jerry Taylor and wife Barbara, Lynda Donnelly and husband Keith, Karla Coston and husband Kent, Diane Hord and husband Parnell. 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren along with 7 nephews, several cousins, and many friends.
He was proceeded in death by his late wife Maggie Hughes, his daughter Marta Hughes, his parents Essie and Lennious Hughes. One brother Hershell Hughes and two sisters Edith Fair and Sally Chandler. Two grandson’s Kyle Taylor and Johnny Lentine.
