LeRoy J. Gentry was born Sept. 13, 1934, in Hugo, Oklahoma to his parents Lee Roy Gentry and Callie Beatrice Willis. He had two brothers and one sister, Delbert Gentry, Charles Gentry and Frances Roberson. LeRoy was married to Lila Mae Franklin, of Morgan Mill, TX, in Hugo, Oklahoma on May 26th, 1956.
LeRoy was raised in Oklahoma and began working at the age of eleven as a projectionist at the movie theater. His father passed at a young age when LeRoy was only twelve. Him and sister Frances were on their own from this point with Chuck (military) and Delbert (California) helping when they could. He cared for his mother her entire adulthood while his brother served in the Navy, and his other brother was in Texas. LeRoy joined the Navy at 17, since the Army would not take a 17-year boy. LeRoy served faithfully in the US Navy, from 1952-1960, and was awarded the National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Republic of Korea War Service Medal, and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.
As Mae became pregnant with their first child, Christy, LeRoy began a career in electronics where he became Vice President of Swieco Electronics (20+ years), and later retired from Radio lnc. as Vice President at the age of sixty-six.
His favorite hobby was fishing. He created generations of memories taking kids, grandkids & great grandkids on trips to the coast in his RV for fishing adventures. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and all his in-laws, just ask Lynn Olree about a few of their big fishing stories.
LeRoy has four children: Christy Fuqua, Donna Gentry, Michael Gentry, and Judy Moore. He was blessed with eight grandchildren: Rusty Fuqua, Randal Moore, Ashley Irwin, Courtney Dorsey, Merrick Gentry, Pierce Gentry, Hannah Moore, and Nathan Moore. He also has fourteen great-grandchildren: Evalynn Fuqua, which he affectionately called “Little Rosie”, Camilla Fuqua, Caroline Fuqua, Paisley Godwin, Wyatt Godwin, Lillian Moore, Lucas Moore, Penelope Moore, Jared Dorsey, Howard Dorsey, Annaliese Dorsey, Linus Dorsey, Isaiah Gentry, and Lanie Gentry. And he was loved by many extended family members (nieces & nephews). His wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the love of his life.
Leroy had an extraordinary life of service. loved his lifetime friends, family and co-workers. He helped and served so many people who have gone before him and many that remain. His words of love and unity will be remembered by all. LeRoy had a trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and is now safely in Heavan with his Father.
