Lelland Earston Owens, 85, of Stephenville, died Friday, December 11, 2020 in Stephenville.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, December 19th at Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel with Weldon Branham officiating. Burial will follow at Erath Gardens of Memory. Funeral under direction of Stephenville Funeral Home.
Lelland was born on February 25, 1935, in Eastland County to the late William Earston and Dortha Oleta Brazell Owens. He married Esther Lou Stuteville on July 13, 1955 in Big Spring. Esther preceded him in death on May 29, 2004. Lelland grew up in Big Spring. He joined the U. S. Army at a young age. Lelland was born on February 25, 1935, in Eastland County to the late William Earston and Dortha Oleta Brazell Owens. He married Esther Lou Stuteville on July 13, 1955 in Big Spring. Esther preceded him in death on May 29, 2004. Lelland grew up in Big Spring. He joined the U. S. Army at a young age. Mr. Owens served his country in the United States Army and fought in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired in 1977 after serving 20 years. Following retirement Mr. Owens moved his family to Stephenville Texas. He enjoyed spending time with his family and being PaPa to his grandchildren. He loved traveling to Ruidoso, New Mexico where he went on adventurous hikes with his beloved schnauzers, Smokey and Bonnie, who preceded him in death.
Lelland is survived by a son, Sheldon Owens of Thornton, Colorado; daughters, Rebecca Goodwin of Stephenville and Debbie Neel of Weston, Florida; brothers, Robert Owens and George M. Owens; sisters, Julia Johnson and Patsy Jones; grandchildren, Brandon Owens, William Gregory Owens, Jr., Andi Goodwin, Madison Goodwin, Michael Neel, Daniel Neel, James Neel, Steven Owens, and Amanda Owens; great grandchildren, Nora Jane Taylor, Della Rae Taylor, and Charlotte Neel.
Besides his parents, and wife, Esther; Lelland is also preceded in death by a son, William Gregory Owens; and brothers, Jefferson Owens, Marvin L. Owens, and David Owens.
