LaVerne Schrimsher Thompson Dec. 20, 1919-July 29, 2013 Selden- Funeral services for LaVerne Schrimsher Thompson, 93, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Indian Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. LaVerne was born in Fort Worth to the late Alfred A. and Nina Darnell Schrimsher. She married James P. Thompson, Jr. on Aug. 26, 1939 in Brady. He preceded her in death on Sept. 4, 2004. LaVerne attended Daniel Baker College, John Tarleton College, and University of Texas. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Stephenville, a lifelong resident of Erath County and a retired school teacher. She ran a Jersey dairy after teaching. She was an Erath County Election Judge for many years. LaVerne was a member and served as an officer in the Stephenville Study Club, Music Club, UMW, AAUW, and Twentieth Century Club. LaVerne is survived by her daughter, Penny Tanner; son, Thomas Hobart and wife April; granddaughters, Tracey and husband James Manuel, Samantha Stiles, Tricia Thompson Owen, Chelsea Thompson; great granddaughter, Clare Manuel; sister, Dorothy Woods; and children of the heart, Jim Burns, Lynn Hulse, Sam Schrimsher, and Don Stiles. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Alfred Jr. and Jerry Schrimsher, sister Winnell Albrecht, and child of her heart, Ed Hulse.
