Larry Ray Jones

Larry Ray Jones, 83, of Stephenville, died on Wednesday, November 22, 2023.

Graveside services for Larry will be at 10:30 AM Monday, November, 27, 2023 at West End Cemetery in Stephenville.

Larry was born on January 12, 1940, in Stephenville, to the late Reecie and Vera Opal Auten Jones.  He attended public school in Stephenville, and was active in the Boy Scouts, receiving his Eagle Scout award.  After he graduated from Stephenville High School, Larry went on to Tarleton.  He and three of his classmates at Tarleton were on the 1959 Sprint Relay Team that won the National Junior College Track and Field Championships in the 440 sprint relay.  The 1959 relay team was the first ever national championship team in school history.  The 1959 team was inducted into the Tarleton State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2014.  After attending Tarleton, Larry went on to the University of Texas where he graduated from UT Law School.  After graduating from the University of Texas, Larry went on the Texas Parks and Wildlife, and served as head of law enforcement and safety.

Larry returned to Stephenville, several years ago, where he continued to practice law.  When he retired from law practice, he began farming coastal fields, and raising cattle.

Larry’s passion in life was kayaking, bicycling, and motorcycle riding.

Larry is survived by his son, Greg Jones; daughter, Nicole Jones; sister, Linda Jones Graetz; and grandchildren Alex Jones, Kelsey Jones, and Scott Jones.

The Jones family wishes expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to Foster’s Home for Children in Stephenville.
