November 17, 1949 - October 14, 2020

Ladd Vernon Herbst, 70, of Stephenville, passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2020.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at the Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Jake Heller officiating. Interment will follow at the Johnson Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

Ladd was born on November 17, 1949 in Pocatello, Idaho to the late Vernon Roscoe and Alice Chaffin Herbst. He spent much of his youth riding horses across the countryside, playing basketball, baseball, and football and helping his father on their family farm. He graduated from Firth High School and attended Brigham Young University. From 1968 -1970 he served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sweden. He returned home and married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Hone on December 28, 1972. Together they raised 5 children. In their 48 years together their greatest joy was being grandparents. Those who loved him most called him "Papa". Ladd worked hard as a Potato Broker for 37 years, living in both Idaho and Oregon, and eventually retiring in Texas. He had a love of ranching, farming, horses, roping, golf and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved his country and was proud of his son and son-in-law for serving as U.S. Army Rangers.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Herbst of Stephenville; children, Michelle Nelson and husband John of South Weber, Utah, Natalie Gaunt and husband Dennis of Sandy, Utah, Jared Ladd Herbst and wife Ginger of Stephenville, Jennifer Bjarnson and husband Brandon of San Antonio, and Justin Ladd Herbst and wife Alyssa of Frisco; grandchildren, Hayden Nelson, Carson Ladd Nelson, Holland Nelson, Sawyer Nelson, Hadley Herbst, Houston Ladd Herbst, Harley Herbst, Raif Bjarnson, Haizer Bjarnson, Cruz Bjarnson, Berlin Bjarnson, Charly Rose Herbst, and soon to be here, Liam Ladd Herbst; brother, Terry Wade Herbst and wife Carol of Firth, Idaho; sisters, De Ann Karratti and husband Beau of Pleasant Grove, Utah and Janet Cherry of Rose, Idaho; as well as many extended family and friends.
