Ken Portwood lost his courageous battle with amyloidosis and other complications on May 26, 2011. Jesus welcomed him to his eternal home in heaven. Funeral: First Baptist Church Stephenville, 2:00 p.m., with visitation preceding at 1:00 p.m.,Monday, May 30, 2011, with Dr. Jim Williams, and Rev. Emil Becker officiating. Interment: Erath Gardens of Memory. Pallbearers: Wade Beam, Adam Beam, Seth Beam, Chris Hall, Mike Rogers and Burney Rogers. Honorary Pallbearers: Ken's Bible Study Class. Memorials: Friends who desire are respectfully invited to honor his memory with a contribution in his name to First Baptist Church Stephenville. Ken proudly served his country during the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star. He graduated from Azle High School and attended Tarleton State University and Texas A&M University. He retired after 43 years as a mfg. engineer for Lockheed Martin. Ken was a member of First Baptist Church Stephenville. He was loved and cherished by all his family and friends. He was known as a man who always had a smile on his face and was always willing to help others. He was a loving faithful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. We all know, as believers, this is a brief goodbye and we will join him in heaven. Ken was preceded in death by; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Portwood; father in law, Lone Stokes; mother-in-law, Jewel Stokes; brother-in-law, L.B. Stokes, and uncles, aunts, and cousins. Survivors: Left to cherish his memory are Modesta, wife of 61 years; son, Mike and wife Deloris Portwood of Vernon; grandsons, Wade and wife Holly Beam of Vernon, Adam and wife Whitney Beam of Wichita Falls, and Seth Beam of Vernon, 4 great-grandchildren, 3 nephews, special adopted granddaughters, aunt, sister-in-law, and a host of other family and friends. A special thanks to Dr. Boucher and staff, Home Care Direct and Universal Health Service.
