Joyce Griffin

November 18, 1935 — February 25, 2025

Joyce Shelton Griffin peacefully entered the arms of her Savior on February 25, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Joyce was born on November 18, 1935, to John Delmer and Ola “Daisy” McKinney Shelton, Joyce was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a cherished grandmother, and a faithful servant of the Lord. Her life was a testament of kindness, selflessness, and unwavering faith. She touched countless lives with her warmth and generosity, leaving behind a beautiful legacy that will continue to inspire generations to come.

Joyce’s faith in the Lord was the foundation of her life. She dedicated her heart to Christ and was baptized on September 6, 1953, a commitment that guided her every step. A devoted member of Solid Rock Baptist Church, she rarely missed a Sunday service. She found immense joy in worship, especially in singing hymns that lifted her spirit and brought her closer to the Lord. Her love for gospel music reflected her deep devotion, a faith she passed down to her children and grandchildren. She was a prayer warrior, always lifting up those she loved and offering comfort through her steadfast belief in God’s grace.

She attended and graduated from Huckabay High School, where she built lifelong friendships and created treasured memories. On December 3, 1953, just months after her baptism, she married the love of her life, Bill Griffin, in Eastland, Texas. Their marriage spanned an incredible 71 years, marked by love, faith, and devotion. Together, they built a life centered on God, family, and hard work, always leading with love and selflessness.

Throughout Bill’s career in construction, they lived in Borger, Uvalde, and Brenham before settling in Erath County, where they built a home filled with warmth and love. Joyce had a remarkable way of making everyone feel welcome, and her home was always a place of comfort. Whether through an encouraging word, a warm smile, or a listening ear, she gave from the heart and expected nothing in return.

Joyce embraced motherhood with a full heart, raising her five children with love, patience, and a strong moral compass. She valued family above all else, ensuring that no matter where life took them, they remained close. In her later years, she lovingly cared for her aging parents and devotedly tended to her husband, Bill, embodying a life of selfless service and love.

Some of her happiest moments were spent with family, especially during trips to Port Aransas. She cherished riding along the beach in a golf cart, watching her loved ones laugh and make memories. These simple yet precious times brought her great joy, and she held them close to her heart.

Whether through an encouraging word, a warm smile, or a listening ear, she gave from the heart and expected nothing in return.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Bill Griffin, who remained by her side throughout their journey together. Her legacy lives on through her loving children: Dianne and husband Ed Eads, Donna and husband Kenneth Mills, Denise and husband David Garner, and Dale and wife Jenny Griffin.

Joyce was a proud and cherished grandmother to Dawn and husband Scott Bradley, Kyle and wife Kassie Eads, Tawnya and husband Ross McMorris, Keith and wife Amanda Mills, Kirk and wife Joanna Mills, Matthew and wife Heather Mills, Luke and wife Kallye Wallace, Lauren and husband Sidney Leyendekker, Ashton and husband Caleb Munton, Candice and husband R.J. Crumal, Amanda Griffin, John and wife Maddy Griffin, and Miranda Griffin. She was also blessed with 21 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to her life. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Mary Quarles, along with many extended family members and dear friends, will forever hold her memory in their hearts.

She was preceded in death by her youngest son, Darrell, in 2021, her parents, John Delmer and Ola “Daisy” Shelton, and her siblings, R.C. Shelton, Robert Shelton, and Jean Hook.

Though Joyce’s passing leaves a deep void, her love, faith, and kindness will continue to shine through those she left behind. She was a guiding light in the lives of many, and her legacy of compassion and devotion will be carried forward by her family and friends. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit remains, watching over those she loved so dearly.

Joyce’s love, warmth, and unwavering faith will never be forgotten. She was a beacon of light to all who knew her, and her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those blessed to have loved her. While she has left this earthly home, we find peace in knowing she is rejoicing in the presence of the Lord, reunited with those who went before her.
