Joe Herman Derrick Jr.

Joe Herman Derrick, Jr., 81, of Abilene, formerly of Stephenville, died Thursday, February 21, 2013 in Abilene. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 23rd at West End Cemetery in Stephenville with Larry Hooper officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 AM until 12 Noon at Stephenville Funeral Home. Joe was born on March 9, 1931 in Stephenville to the late Joe Herman Derrick, Sr., and Bertie Mae Chaney Derrick. He married Lois Kilcrease on September 22, 1956 in Stephenville. Lois preceded him in death on May 24, 1994. Joe served in the U. S. Army, and was a member of the Broadview Baptist Church in Abilene. He lived in Stephenville until he moved to Abilene in 1956. Joe retired after many years as an engineer with the Texas Highway Department. Survivors include his two sons, Mike and wife Janeen Derrick of Abilene, and Gregory and wife Cloyce Derrick of Abilene; six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Family wishes expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to the Hospice of the Big Country in Abilene, or to a volunteer fire department of the donor's choice.
