December 12, 1957 — July 28, 2021

Jimmy Ray Shinn, Jr., 63, of Stephenville, died Wednesday, July 28, 2021, in Granbury.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, August 2, 2021 at Stephenville Funeral Home with Rev. Ben McCleery officiating.  Burial will follow at Erath Gardens of Memory.  Visitation with the Shinn family will be 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Sunday, August 1st at Stephenville Funeral Home.

Jimmy was born on December 12, 1957, in Stephenville to Jimmy Shinn, Sr. and Verna Dean Hale Shinn.  He graduated from Stephenville High School, class of 1976.  While attending school in Stephenville, Jimmy was active in FFA Stock Shows and was a bareback rider.

The most important thing to Jimmy was his family and friends.  He was a devoted father and Papa, who loved his kids more than anything.  Jimmy spent much of his time with his grandson Marshall, teaching him about music, movies and mechanics.  Jimmy had many passions including riding motorcycles, flying airplanes, music, farming, fishing and photography.  Some days he would spend riding his gator with his buddy, Ringo, checking his cows and maybe stopping to fish at his tank.  He passed down his love of fishing to his daughter Krystal, his love for flying to his son Derek, and his love for travel and adventure to his daughter Shelby.  He was always up for an adventure, whether it was taking off to his second home in Cody, Wyoming or riding his motorcycle with his friends.  Jimmy spent many of his younger years with his cousin who was like a brother, Rick, as a hunting guide. He could spend hours telling stories about his life in Cody including wrestling a bobcat with his bare hands.  He lived his life like many wish they could, one day at a time and like there was no tomorrow.

Jimmy was a member of Green’s Creek Baptist Church, and a lifelong resident of Stephenville.  He spent his life working for the family business, Shinn Construction Company, as a piledriver.

Jimmy is survived by his children, Krystal and husband Bubba Daniel of Dublin, Derek and wife Ana Cooper of Austin, and Shelby and husband Tyler Latham of Stephenville; grandchildren, Marshall Daniel, Ava Daniel, Sebastian Cooper and Kendall Cooper; mother, Verna Dean Shinn of Stephenville; sisters, Deborah and husband Jim Buck of Stephenville, and Kaye and husband Scott Smith of Stephenville; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and his faithful dog, Ringo.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy Ray Shinn, Sr.; and a son, Jarod Shinn.

The Shinn family wishes expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to Green’s Creek Baptist Church, Harbin Volunteer Fire Department, or the National Kidney Foundation.
