Jerry Dwayne Underwood

November 9, 1958- May 11, 2021

Jerry Dwayne Underwood, aka Babe, Dad, Papa, Uncle Duck, JD, left us very unexpectedly and much too soon on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at the age of 62, from a massive heart attack.   Born on November 9, 1958, in Brady, Texas, to RC and Stella Underwood, Jerry was raised in Brady and graduated from Brady High School in 1977.   As a proud Brady Bulldog football player, Jerry was “#46 on your program, #1 in your heart.” He married Sari Day in 1982.   As Jayci said about her dad, “If you knew him, you loved him.”  Jeremy inherited Jerry’s work ethics, woodworking, and big heart.

Jerry spent 31 years at Comanche Peak Nuclear Station in several departments, most recently in the training division, accumulating hundreds of hours of certification and training that assured he was the best at what he did.

Jerry decided to work with wood, beginning with candleholders and adding unique flower containers, plant stands, crates, caddies, and beautiful benches.   His best times were spent in his shop with granddaughters Maecy “Snickerdoodle” and Brinley “Dumplin,” teaching and laughing and making memories.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 39 years, Sari; son Jeremy Underwood of Weatherford; daughter Jayci and husband Lucas Cruz and Baby Cruz(arriving December 2021) of Dallas;  granddaughters Maecy and Brinley Underwood of Stephenville, many family members, and so many friends who already miss him and will share JD stories any time to brighten your day.

Memorial services for Jerry will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel.
