Jerry Lynn Landes Young

Peacefully and surrounded by her family, Jerry Lynn Young, our family’s beloved matriarch passed away in the early hours of December 17, 2024, in North Richland Hills, Texas at the age of 78 years.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Oliver Lee Young. She is survived by her brother, Terry Dobson of Stephenville, her chosen sister, and lifelong friend, June Stephens of Desdemona, Texas, her daughter, Kathy Landes, of Denton, Texas, son, John Landes and wife Marla, of Bradford, Pennsylvania, daughter, Nancy Landestrait, of Fort Worth, Texas, son, Carl Landes and wife Crystal of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Terry and Tonya Dobson of Stephenville. She is survived by many adoring grandchildren; Jared Jennings, Logan and Madie Landes, Aydan Landes, Selah Landes, Oliver Landestrait, Jacobe Greer, Jessica Greer, Austin Landes, Blair Landes, and Shane and Carissa (Landes) Pitts, Tristan Dobson, and Tatum Dobson. She is also survived by seven great grandchildren.

Jerry Lynn Young, (Dobson) was born August 11, 1946 in Stephenville Texas to John Blaine Dobson and Kathryn Cora Dobson (Carr). She attended school in Denver, Colorado and Stephenville, Texas and she attended nursing school at Stephenville Hospital. She was a nurse for 35 years, including many years as a surgical nurse. Later she returned to school and graduated from Tarleton State University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

Jerry was a fierce advocate for all her children, especially for her daughter Kathy. In the late 1960’s she was one of the founding members of the first special education school in Stephenville, Texas, called Little Flame School. She touched innumerable lives with her work for special needs children, which continued throughout her life.

Our Mom, Mama, Gran, Granny, Granmeister, Granny Oakely will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love, patience and perseverance will live on through the many lives she touched.

A Visitation Service will be held from 5pm to 7pm on Friday December 20, 2024, at Stephenville Funeral Home.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at Stephenville Funeral Home with graveside services immediately following at the West End Cemetery.
