J D Walker

J D Walker, 90, of Stephenville, passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024.

Funeral services for J D will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, December 12, 2024 at Stephenville
Funeral Home Chapel with Russ Bare officiating. Burial will follow at West End
Cemetery. Visitation with the Walker family will be 10:00 AM till 11:30 AM Thursday
morning.

J D was born on February 18, 1934, in Erath County, Texas to the late Doyle F. and Eula
Chaney Walker. He attended school in Stephenville, and joined the Army in October
1956. J D served in Scoffield Barracks in Honolulu, HI until May 1958. He was called to
serve again during the Cuban Missile Crisis in June 1961 and was stationed in Fort Polk,
LA until August 1962. He married the love of his life, Wilma Carter, on September
18,1964. J D was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for
43 years. J D was a member of Stephenville Masonic Lodge #267 and the “Old
Goats”coffee drinking group. Mostly, though, he loved spending time with his family,
especially his grandaughter, Taylor. His day was complete if he got to pick “Sweet Pea” up
from school and take her for an after school treat.

J D started his career building houses alongside his father. Their most important project
together was the house they built that J D and Wilma would live in to this very day.
Toward the end of his career, J D spent over twelve years with the maintenance
department at Tarleton State University. J D also served many years as a volunteer
fireman with the Stephenville Fire Dept.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma; daughter, Shanna and husband Matt Harpole;
granddaughter, Taylor Harpole; brother, Jerry and wife Wanda Walker; sister, Linda and
husband Doyle Hooks; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, J D was preceded in death by a sister, Charlene Walker; brother,
Delton Walker; and a nephew, Larry Walker.
