J.D. Fortune

J.D. Fortune, 74, of Stephenville, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2018 in Stephenville. A visitation will be held from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at the Stephenville Funeral Home. J.D. was born on February 28, 1944 in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Paul Fortune and Virginia Higginbotham. He was a graduate of Frazier High School and worked for many years in the heat and air business, owning and operating the Fortune Heat and Air in Stephenville. He married Gerry Godfrey on May 24, 1969 in Mineral Wells an together they resided in Stephenville. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Gerry of Stephenville; Daughters, Dawn Fortune and husband Joe Francis of Tyler, Deana Isbell and husband Scott of Tyler, and April Smith and husband Robert of Utah; son Jimmy Fortune and wife Kelli of Oyster Creek; mother, Virginia Brite of West Memphis, AR.; grandchildren, Somer, Robyn, Tiffany, Brice, Dallas, Robert, Brittany, McKenzie, and Levi; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Pauletta Gordon and husband Chuck, Jenny Lynn Burks and husband Tim both of West Memphis, AR., and Doan Fortune of Florida, and Sherry Fortune, of California; and family friend, Ryan Carr. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Fortune; step-father, Earnest Brite; brother, Ricky Fortune; and sister, Betty Larue.
