Jayne Martell (Koonsman) Currier, 95, passed away Wednesday October 17, 2012 in Stephenville. Services for Jayne will be held Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Stephenville Funeral Home with David Harris of Hillcrest Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow at Barbee Cemetery, Erath County. Visitation will be Friday evening, 6-8PM at the Stephenville Funeral Home. Jayne was born March 31, 1917 in the rural Erath County community of Duffau. She was the youngest and last living member of the Harry and Mary Koonsman family. Aside from a brief stay in Snyder, TX, she was a lifelong resident of Erath County. She married James Albert "Jay" Currier on April 2, 1938 and they had two daughters. Jay preceded her in death in 1975. Jayne spent many years working in sewing factories before her retirement in 1991. When she wasn't working, she spent her time enjoying family and friends. She loved to cook, tend to her flowers, quilt and wore out countless packs of playing cards at her kitchen table playing Solitaire, which she simply called "Ole Sol." She was a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ. She will probably be most remembered as an independent, spirited, hardworking woman, with simple values and a matter-of-fact dry since of humor. She would do for others before she would do for herself. She was loved very much and will be missed. Jayne is survived by her two daughters, Ann and husband Loyd Riley of Stephenville and Janice and husband Jack Garner of Dublin, seven grandchildren; Buddy Riley of New Braunfels, James and wife Connie Riley of Lingleville, Gene and wife Cathy Riley of Huckabay, Randall Riley of Austin, Gail Riley of Fort Worth, Vonda Garner of Rankin, Karen Garner of Stephenville; and three great grandchildren; Chrissy Duncan of Stephenville, Chelsea, and Elizabeth Riley of New Braunfels. She was preceded in death by five sisters; Mattie Walsworth, Bertha Burch, Golda Scott, Bernice Wolfe, and Dell Mayfield; two brothers; Lawrence and Hugh Koonsman In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fosters Home in Stephenville, or the American Cancer Society (1-800-227-2345).
