James E. Boykin, 83 years old, of Stephenville, TX passed away at the Golden Ages Nursing Center in Dublin on October 10, 2104. He had been struggling with congestive heart failure for several years and his condition was worsened by recent surgery for cancer. Mr. Boykin and his wife, Margie (Lee) Boykin had been residents of Stephenville for over 37 years. James was born in Miles,TX on November 26, 1930. After high school, he went into the Army and served for several years before going to school and becoming a respiratory therapist. He and his wife worked at various hospitals in TX before settling down in Stephenville where they found a loving church in the First Baptist Church, Stephenville. James loved to sing in the choir and did so until he could no longer stand. He also loved authentic Hawaiian folk music and kept a vintage collection. Friends of his said that they would like to have him declared a national treasure because of his uncanny ability to recite baseball statistics for all teams and players dating back to the beginning of baseball history. He worked hard after retiring from respiratory therapy, cleaning the old opera house in town every Saturday night and mowing lawns in the area. Mr. Boykin is survived by his wife, Margie (Lee) Boykin, (currently of Odessa); sisters, Billie Doris Curry (Lewis) of Robert Lee, Maxine Story of Wichita Falls; nephews: Gregory McBride of Silver Spring, MD, Randy Story of Stephenville, Brian Story of Burkburnett; and nieces Rhondda Metcalf of Front Royal, VA and Annette Barfield of Wichita Falls. James' sense of humor and enthusiasm for learning will be missed by family and friends. A private memorial service will held in Robert Lee, TX where his new life with the Lord will be celebrated.
