Jack Burton Waggoner passed away quietly April 20, 2012 in Glen Rose, Texas. Born in Rotan, TX on January 3, 1939, he was the youngest of three brothers. Jack graduated from Rotan High School and went on to play football and baseball in college. He graduated from Sul Ross State University and later received his master's degree from Tarleton State University. While at Sul Ross, he met and married Judy Miller, his college sweetheart. They were married 51 years and have four children and eight grandchildren. Jack's career passion was coaching. He coached many championship teams in football, track and baseball. He was a dedicated coach, outgoing and charismatic. Jack enjoyed turning losing programs into winners and this took him to all areas of Texas to coach. In retirement, he enjoyed his family, playing golf and channel surfing. Jack was quick with a smile and always had a good story to tell. He was a member of the Baptist church, the Texas High School Coaches Association and USA Track and Field. He is survived by his wife Judy; daughter Dawn Waggoner, her children Austin, London and Paris; son Shawn Waggoner, his daughter Shanel; daughter Mica Barton, her husband Brian, children Will and Reese; son Mark Waggoner, his wife Caroline, children Matt and Casey; his brother Jerry Waggoner; and, sister-in-law Betty Waggoner. His memorial will be Sunday, April 29, 2012 at 2:00pm at the Stephenville Funeral Home in Stephenville, TX. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to a student-athlete scholarship fund in his name at the F&M Bank in DeLeon, TX or contact the Waggoner family for other arrangements.
