Stephenville Isora Young, 107, of Stephenville, passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2012 in Fort Worth. Memorial Service will be held 2:00 P. M. Monday, June 4, 2012 at the Stephenville Funeral Home with Steve Holston officiating. Isora was born on May 20, 1905 to the late Homer and Katherine Gilman Johnson in Hasse, Texas. She married I. W. Young on February 12, 1939 in Seminole, TX. He preceded her in death on August 3, 1976. Isora has resided in Stephenville most of her life, moving here from Pecos. I. W. and Isora had a ranch in Exray in 1939, in 1947 they leased the ranch in Exray and went to South Dakota for ten years. She was a member of Oak Dale Methodist Church. She was inducted to the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame in1979 in Hereford, TX. She loved ranching, horses and roping, such love made her a pioneer in calf roping and barrel racing. She was promoted as one of only two cowgirl calf ropers in the world in the early 1930's. Isora worked as a bookkeeper until she was close to 102 years old. She was considered the rock foundation of her family. Survivors include her granddaughters, Lea Boykin, Teresa Rogers and Mary Mooney all of Stephenville; great-grandchildren, Brandy Warlick and husband Troy; Lacy Carruth; Tamara Wells and husband Rod; Tyler Rogers and wife Amanda; Michael D. Mooney and Charles Alan Mooney and wife Kellie; great-great-grandchildren, Becca Emmons; Joshua Emmons; Crystal Wells; Shelby Wells; Dillon Rogers; Andra Jane Rogers and Alex Carruth; sister, Louise Strickland and nephew C.L. Strickland. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Katherine R. Dodd on April 29, 2004, and a nephew, Homer Strickland.
