Howard D. Lay

Howard D. Lay, 78, of Stephenville, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2009 in Fort Worth. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, December 31, 2009 at the Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at the Johnson Cemetery in Erath County. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Wednesday at Stephenville Funeral Home. Howard was born May 16, 1931 in the Corinth Community to the late Odis P. and Ruby Black Lay. He married Joanna Allen on April 8, 1960 in Stephenville. Howard was a member of the Graham Street Church of Christ. He was President of the Johnson Cemetery Association for many years and was active in the Corinth Community reunions for several years. Howard retired after more than 30 years from Barnes & McCullough Lumberyard and was a lifelong resident of Erath County. Survivors include his wife, Joanna Lay; brother, Bobby G. Lay and wife Louan of College Station; sisters-in-law, Joyce Lay, Naomi Lay, and Nadine Allen; several nieces and nephews, Betty and Mike Proctor, Pat and Larry Hammett, Randy Lay, Willard and Debbie Lay Jr., Tony Lay, Debbie and Dennis Smith, Diane and Jay Caton, Tammye and Mark York, Todd and Diane Lay, and Reta and Gene Burns. Memorials may be made to Foster's Home in Stephenville.
