Horty Lee Dowell

Horty Lee Dowell, 84, passed away Friday, December 7, 2007 in Stephenville. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday December 10, 2007 in the Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Allen and Gary Williams officiating. Interment will follow at the Post Oak Cemetery in Somervell County. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm Sunday at the Stephenville Funeral Home. Horty was born May 10, 1923 in Somervell County to the late Kirt and Beedie Thompson Hankins. She married Charles Vernon Dowell on February 9, 1942 in Hico, and he preceded her in death on June 8, 1987. She has resided most of her life in Erath County and worked as a seamstress. She was a Primitive Baptist. She is survived by a son, Billy Dowell and his wife Brenda of Huckabay; 2 daughters, Linda Smith and her husband Gary of Louisiana, and Melodie Meador of Fort Worth; sisters-in-law, Corabell Hankins, Pearl McDaniel, and Marie Dowell; daughter-in-law, Betty Dowell of Stephenville; 12 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Dowell on April 20, 2006; and a grandson, Jeffrey on November 13, 1984. Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Foundation.
